Dat zijn de thema’s besproken in zijn meest recente boeken Being at Large: Freedom in the Age of Alternative Facts (2020) en Why Only Art Can Save Us: Aesthetics and the Absence of Emergency (2017).

Santiago Zabala is a cultural critic and ICREA Research professor of philosophy at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. His work focusses on the meaning of art, politics, and freedom in the 21st century. For Zabala the goal of philosophy is to highlight that ‘the greatest emergency has become the absence of emergency’ (such as climate change or economic inequality) in order to disrupt the ongoing ‘return to order’ that surveillance capitalism and right-wing populism are imposing on us. These themes are addressed in his recent books Being at Large: Freedom in the Age of Alternative Facts (2020) and Why Only Art Can Save Us: Aesthetics and the Absence of Emergency (2017), the two books that will guide our conversation.
