Op maandag 16 december organiseren KVS en rekto:verso een debat rond internationalisering. Wat beogen we precies met internationaal reizen en programmeren? Boude stelling: er bestaat goeie en slechte internationalisering.

Verhoog je kapitaal, speel internationaal! Volgens dat adagium gaat de internationalisering van de Vlaamse kunstensector al jaren in stijgende lijn. The sky is the limit, en te pas en te onpas wordt dan ook uitgepakt met de roem van de Vlaamse kunsten over de hele wereld. Dat maakt van internationalisering een terugkerend debat binnen het cultuurbeleid, maar algauw beperkt zich dat louter tot financiële en beleidstechnische kwesties.

buitenland.jpgIn dit debat willen KVS en rekto:verso vragen stellen bij de inhoudelijke kant van internationaal reizen en programmeren. Wat beogen we met/in het buitenland, en wie heeft daar verder baat bij? Hoe ver reikt dat buitenland eigenlijk? Is 'internationaal' per definitie gelijk aan 'kosmopolitisch'? En wat hebben internationale gasten en contexten zelf aan onze komst of onze uitnodiging? Kortom: binnen welke systemen functioneert onze hang naar verre horizonten?

Debate: the other side of abroad

Increase your capital, play internationally! It is in accordance with this adage that the internationalisation of the Flemish arts sector has been advancing for many years. The sky is the limit, and the renown of the Flemish arts all over the world is bandied about all the time. This makes internationalisation the recurring subject of debate among cultural policy-makers, but it soon gets bogged down in purely financial issues and the technicalities of policy.

In this debate, the KVS and the rekto:verso cultural magazine want to raise questions about the content side of international tours and programming. What are we aiming for abroad, and who else benefits from it? How far does abroad actually extend? Is ‘international’ by definition the same as ‘cosmopolitan’? And what do international guests and hosts themselves gain from our invitations and visits? In short, in the context of which systems does our penchant for distant horizons function? To make one bold assertion: there is such a thing as good and bad internationalisation.
